DJ Andy Hunter

Internationally acclaimed United Kingdom artist, DJ Andy Hunter, is using his electric music to reach the world. He also uses his platform to urge the church to pray for others and extend hope to a world in despair. Born in Leicester, England, Hunter grew up in a faith-filled home and came to believe at an early age that God was real and cared deeply about him.

At the age of fourteen, as a member of a small evangelical church in England, Hunter’s relationship with Christ became more personal. There, a group of church members with a rock band recruited Andy to join them as a sound engineer, and he traveled with them to different churches.

“For me, that was foundational in my passion for music and my passion for Jesus,” says Hunter. “It also gave me a taste of different expressions of worship and a chance to see what the Holy Spirit was doing in different places.” Band members discipled Andy and helped him to hone his audio talents. He grew as a man of God and as a musician.

In the early 1990s, Hunter joined New Generation Music and Mission (NGM), a mission organization blending church planting, training, music and media. Through NGM, he helped start churches throughout Europe specifically for young people, many of whom were into dance music. It was during this time that Andy became a DJ.

“It just seemed alien when we’d break out an acoustic guitar and sing a few rousing choruses,” he laughs. “These kids had never been to church, but were really into dance music.” So the DJ became the worship leader.

Today, DJ Andy Hunter has reached world-wide notoriety. “When I decide on something, I get quite passionate about that thing,” Hunter says. “When I started in music I was also passionate about Jesus. I thought, ‘I just want to go for you, God, follow you, no matter where it takes me.’ And I still I feel that way today.”
